The Importance of Education
Juanita believed in the power of education to improve one's status in life.
Undaunted by her own economic limitations, she encouraged her children to work to the best of their ability in school.
Her efforts and advice paid off. Four of her five children earned scholarships to attend college. Three of the five went on to obtain advanced academic degrees.
Of the remaining two children, one of them chose to practice a skilled trade and the other one succumbed to life's bitter challenges.
All of her children, however, believed that education represented hope. It is only fitting that her memory be kept alive through the act of giving so that others might thrive.
